I was riding yesterday with a few folks. We had decided to meander through the countryside and see what awaited us. No real destination but rather a direction. After just a few miles one of the riders behind me misjudged a corner and slid off of the road. The bike now lay still and helpless in a newly planted cornfield. The rider appeared to be fine though sporting a few minor character scratches that had not been visible minutes prior to the miscalculation.

We sat by the side of the road for some time and listened as our friend told us how it had happened. It seems that the rider ahead of them had also miscalculated slightly. They too had run off of the road and onto the dirt. However, the first rider managed to wrestle the machine back onto the pavement. The real problem started when the next rider followed them into the corner on the same line.
Now, we all know that we are responsible for our own bikes and the manner in which we ride them. But, remember someone may be and probably is watching us to see how we maneuver our lives. I shudder when I think of all of the times I have gone into a corner too hot, figuratively speaking. I have found that if the voice in your head asks to be dropped off at the next corner, you might want to rethink your riding style that day.
I’m sure you have probably figured out where I am going with this but I am going to finish it anyway so get comfy. Our ride through life is rarely about “what we can get out of it”. Life seems to be more about the path we leave behind for others to walk. Maybe that’s why Jesus spent the last three years of his life leading a group of men. He walked to cut a pathway for us to walk. A pathway of kindness, goodness, love, joy, peace, gentleness..etc.
I challenge you today to slow down. Consider the ones following you. The ones who think YOU know where you are going.
The Bible is our guide. Spend some time preparing for the road ahead and check the guide.
