On Sunday May 2nd, there is a bike blessing at St. Paul Harley. Will Lemieux is the Chaplain and here are some of his thoughts on this year’s event.
It is PS. 84 5-7. “ 4.Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; They will still be praising You. 5.Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, Whose heart is set on pilgrimage. 6. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They made it a spring; The rain also covers it with pools. 7. They go from strength to strength; Each one appears before God in Zion.”
In verse 5 it talks about a pilgrimage which is by definition a journey. Though we live in this world we are not suppose to be caught up in all of it’s lies, so our hearts should be set on this pilgrimage (journey) – of having a heart that meets with God- One way we can take that journey with God, is to do it when we are riding our bikes because there we can be alone with God and his creation.
BACA also means the “valley of weeping, a dry, rough spot” or to me the school of hard knocks. But these hard-knock people take these tragedies and turn them into triumphs and use such misfortunes as stepping stones to bigger and better things. I know all of you have had some tuff stuff to deal with in life. Who do you rely during these times?
-God is with us on our pilgrimages. What is the purpose of these bike blessings? To me it is a way to celebrate God and his beauty and the acknowledgment of Him who is in control!
- I would venture to say that we all believe in God, my question to you is do you have a day to day walk with Him? It’s hard because our pride and religions can get in the way with a whole long list of does and don’ts. Or we judge people and shy away from our own personal walk. Or we judge God as a Voodoo man who works magic in our favor, superstitious. Or when things go wrong we blame God and stay mad at Him…
- In Mt: 16:18 When God told Peter “ Upon my Rock (Peter) I will build this (my) Church” The word Church means unity- a place for everyone, but man took over and made up its own rules and we had the split and the make up of all these other religions. Then later on down the road
-The church was built upon Peter who in the end said he would not deny Jesus, but in fact did 3 TIMES. Jesus knew Peter was going to deny him way before he said it and told Peter he was going to build his church upon him. Why would Jesus do that? Even though we know the truth and what is right to do, we don’t always do it. He used as a reminder to us all that he built his church on “GRACE” – which means “the free and unmerited favor of God” Emphasis on “FREE” we forget grace- It is upon Grace that we can have salvation which is being with Christ in heaven, many churches have twisted this and forget all about it and in time your salvation in the churches eye has become more works based.
- If we do more volunteering we are better
- If we raise more money for the unfortunate and poor – we are better
- This all sounds good, but nothing to do with salvation
-It’s GRACE that saves us, When we truly understand that our lives take on a whole new meaning and purpose.
- Today I wanted to challenge you to trust God more and understand his grace as we experience the up and downs in our journey of life.
- As it says in verse 5- “ Blessed is the man whose strength is in you and trusts in you Whose heart is set on Pilgrimage and are searching for you in our journeys in life.
- That is our blessing for this year!!!
Ride hard my friends, but pray harder!!!
