I worked late tonight. It was a good day; productive, but taxing on the old noodle. Read some books to my kids and kissed them goodnight, like I always do. And then I decided to go for a walk to stretch my legs that had been cooped-up in the car and behind a desk all day. So I grabbed a flashlight and stepped out into the darkness. My wife asks as I closed the door, "where are you going?" her face had a half look of confusion and displeasure. Back in a few. Gone.
It was so muggy out that I wanted to go shirtless, but thought I better not scare the neighbors any more than I have already. The night sky was clear and surprisingly bright. I carried that flashlight that I didn't need. I talked to Larry on the phone as I plodded along in no particular direction. He is a pretty good conversationalist when he wants to be. I mentioned that the moon was following me as I walked, and how beautiful God made the world all around us. Larry agreed and made up a word like marvelations, or something like that. I like new words that describe the very things that you are experiencing. They don't have to make sense to anyone but you. Larry is good at making up words. They just pop out. It was a great walk and talk around my neighborhood on a quiet Tuesday evening.
When I got home, I looked up some data on the moon. And here's what I found:
Moon data (averages):
Diameter: 2,160 miles
Time to rotate: 27.3 days*
Orbit: 27.3 days*
Compared to Earth:
Mass: 1.2% of Earth's
Diameter: 27% of Earth's
Distance from Earth: 238,866 miles
Because it takes 27.3 days both to rotate on its axis and to orbit Earth, the Moon always shows us the same face. We see the Moon because of reflected sunlight. How much of it we see depends on its position in relation to Earth and the Sun.
Very interesting. Also, the moon is held in orbit around the Earth by the Earth's gravitational pull and the moon's gravity affects the ocean tides on Earth. So what Dan, get to the point! Fine then; what some people believe in is a massive explosion plus matter plus energy plus time plus chance, what they are saying is "I don't believe in God". And I am sorry that I can't debate scientific evidence or calculated theories. But I can tell them that faith will save them! God will save them. But you have to believe. God made the Heavens and the Earth. There is no other explanation. The thought of the moon, our planet, our galaxy happening by chance? How is that possible? All that we see, and hear was designed by our Creator.
The moon is evidence of the existence of God. It is perfect and beautiful, and has a crazy way of following you around your neighborhood on hot July nights.
Ride safe and ride over to see us again,
Danno
